Angel Season Six

May 3, 2007 By Mike Hickerson 12 Comments

Written by: Michael Hickerson (SoSF Journalist)

Unfortunately Joss Whedon isn’t reviving the Buffy-verse on television.

angel_season_5.jpgBuoyed by the success of the eighth season of “Buffy, the Vampire Slayer” running in comic-book form, Dark Horse has decided to move forward with a sixth season for “Angel” that takes place on the printed page.

And while the series has Whedon’s blessing, he won’t be as hands-on with “Angel’s” sixth seaon as he is with “Buffy’s.” Dark Horse announced that comic-book veteran Brian Lynch will oversee the new comic-book series.

When we last saw the Angel Investigations crew, it appeared Wesley had died and Angel, Gunn, Lorne, Spike and Illeria were facing down an army of demons. The series was cancelled by the WB in its fifth season but given enough time to create a resolution to some of the arc plots. Whether or not the comic series will pick up with the epic battle is yet to be determined.

Great. More Angel comics for me to try to buy. My budget can’t handle this!

Looks like my comic book pull will be going up, again! Just when I was thrilled that it was less that $120.00 for this month’s pull. SIGH!

@Jennny and nikki: No. The television series are both done and gone. The casts and crews from both series have long since moved on. Buffy and Angel are continuing in comic book form only. Joss Whedon is overseeing the overall storylines and writing some of the major arcs on Buffy, and several of the staff writers from the series are doing arcs or one-shots of their own, but they will not be returning to TV. Ever.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is focused on her film career, and David Boreanaz is thoroughly happy on Bones. Also, both have pretty much said that they would only return to their old roles for a feature film, and the window of opportunity for that has realistically passed. The only project still rumored to be in the works for that universe is a “Ripper” movie for the BBC, but with Joss busy on comics, Dollhouse, Doctor Horrible, and the movie he’s doing with Drew Goddard, I doubt that will happen anytime in the next year or so.
