Earlier this week, ABC picked up “Lost” for a fourth season. Now comes speculation from one of the show’s stars that the show could run uninterrupted next season.
Naveen Andrews, who plays Sayid, told SciFi Wire that he’s heard rumors that ABC is thinking of running the show in one large block next year, similiar to FOX’s pattern with the hit-series “24.”
“I believe that’s the plan,” Andrews said.
Once a huge-hit for ABC, “Lost” has cooled off in the ratings. While still a top-20 show, ratings are no where near the heights they reached late in the first and second seasons of the show. During the second season, the show was criticized for a lack of new episodes during the spring months and that fans couldn’t find new episodes when they did air. ABC tried to combat that this year by having two blocks of episodes–six in the fall and then the remaining airing this spring.
Now it appears that ABC will try for the block scheduling to build some buzz for the show and keep the fans happy.
While promoting his role in the new film “Grindhouse” Andrews stated that he’s been less than happy with the amount of screen time his character has been getting on the show. The fall return features a heavy-emphasis on the mysterious Others and the three island castaways they took prisoner. Andrews, along with several other stars, spoke about their frustration with the show in a “USA Today” article a few weeks ago. Since the show’s return, the other island residents have received more screen time although Andrews’ character has been featured in one of the on-going plotlines currently in motion.
“Lost” airs Wednesday nights at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
