Biehn May Take on Avatar

March 26, 2007 By S. K. Sloan 1 Comment

Michael Biehn the actor who has been in some of the best and highest grossing SF films over the last 30 years is in talks with “Titanic” director James Cameron and may end up starring in the the 3-D SF epic film “Avatar.”

Biehn has had major roles in films like “The Terminator” with Arnold Swartzenegger and Linda Hamilton, “Aliens” with Sigouney Weaver, “The Abyss” with Ed Harris and the action/thriller “The Rock” with Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage.

“I’ve had two very very good meetings with Jim,” Biehn said in an interview while on the press junket promoting his latest ensemble piece “Grindhouse.” “And they went very well. He showed me a lot of stuff that he was doing. Showed me the presentation that he showed Fox. I thought they went very well. There have been a lot of other sources, like Harry Knowles at Ain’t-It-Cool-News.com, that have reported they have sources saying that I’m doing it, but so far I haven’t heard anything from Jim. He hasn’t cast the role yet.”

If Biehn does sign on then he will rejoin former cast-mate Sigourney Weaver, who has already been given a part by Cameron. Also in the film so far are Australian actor Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana.

As we have reported numerous times in the past, “Avatar” will be an epic tale that tells the story of a wounded ex-marine who is unwillingly sent to settle and exploit a faraway planet. He gets caught up in a battle for survival by the planet’s inhabitants.

Biehn is a known quantity for Cameron, having worked with the actor on “Terminator,” “Aliens” and “The Abyss.”

“I’ve had two meetings with him, but they were a while ago, and he hasn’t cast the role, and he hasn’t cast me in it,” Biehn said.

Look for a tentative release date for “Avatar” around Memorial Day 2009.
