Spartans Defeated by Turtles

March 25, 2007 By Sam Sloan 2 Comments

poster1.jpgIt looks like CGI ninja fighting turtles accomplished what the Persians, and the rest of Hollywood couldn’t — knock “300” over the edge of the cliff and down to the number two slot this weekend.

It is estimated that “TNMT” will bring in over $25 million at the box office with “300” close behind adding another $21 million plus to its already impressive three week numbers.

Mark Wahlberg’s sniper flick “Shooter” isn’t a sure bet for third because Travolta’s ensemble “Wild Hogs” is still ridin’ high at number four, just a few thousand dollars short of the third place shot. Since these are only estimates those two could flip by the final count tonight after the box office’s close across the United States.

If things hold steady this will be a big weekend win for genre films with six SF related films capturing the coveted Top Ten positions.

We will have the final U.S. box office figures for you later in the week.

Madness! I may have to go see 300 again just to try and knock TNMT off next weekend.

    Madness!

it’s to be expected, 300 spent a couple of weeks in the #1 spot which these days seems to be REALLY good, slipping to #2 isn’t such a bad thing. Most movies by their 3rd week seem to just fall off the map.
