No, I’m not talking about the satellite radio station, but a screenplay that writer Marc Librescu is currently undertaking.
Based on the 1944 novel of the same name from author Olaf Stapledon (“Last and First Men,” “Star Maker” and “Old John”), “Sirius” is the story of a genetically engineered canine that exhibits the development of normal human intelligence, blurring the line between man and animal and what is considered independent thinking with free will vs. instinct. This story along with those already mentioned helped to establish Stapledon as one of England’s foremost science fiction authors in the late 1930’s and early 1940’s. He died instantly of a cerebral stroke in 1950 cutting short what looked to be a long and prolific writing career.
Librescu has created an online blog that allows those interested in following his day to day progress, from start to finish, in the development of the screenplay. Visitors to the site are able to comment, offer suggestions or solutions to some of the more daunting aspects and challenges that all writers face.
“This is a unique opportunity to follow the making of a screenplay as it’s being written,” commented Librescu. “I’m hoping that people come to the site, read the book, and enter into a dialog about the script.”
