SoSF News Briefs — Week Ending March 10, 2007

March 10, 2007 By S. K. Sloan 1 Comment

“Speed Racer” will not get its choice for director of Photography. It seems that John Mathieson (Gladiator) has turned down Andy and Larry Wachowski because he refuses to do an entire film on green screen and that is what the famous brothers have planned for this big screen adaptation.

Say it isn’t so! It’s looking like 20th Century Fox is considering a 21st Century remake of the 1960’s classic scifi flick “The Fantastic Voyage.” Sorry, but unless Angelina Jolie has time on her already full schedule to do it, why bother? She is the only one I know of who could fill out that wet suit as well as Rachel Welch did in the day.

The premiere of “300” on Friday already had long lines of moviegoers waiting to get in to see it and has been declared a huge success with two days still left for the weekend box office tally.

Kevin Smith is still up for directing a horror movie, as we reported a few months ago, but now he wants to dip his toes into animation. No word yet on what toon he is interested in pursuing, but could he be thinking “Mallrats 2: Die Hard in a Mall” or possibly a Bluntman and Chronic movie? With Kevin anything is possible. Stay tuned.

Image Entertainment will release “The Hunt” on DVD on March 20, 2007. “The Hunt” is an alarmingly frightening film (directed by Fritz Kiersch of Children of the Corn fame) that combines horrific elements of “The Blair Witch Project” and “Predator.” I hope to do a review of it sometime soon.

Shia LaBeouf is claiming that reports of him appearing in the new Indiana Jones film as Ford’s son are pure speculation stating, “Look, those were rumors that got started on the Internet, and it’s a great idea, and it would be fun to talk about, but I don’t have the part” “Hey, I can’t keep a secret. If it were true, I’d talk about it. I’ll tell everyone” he added.
