The CW Network, home of “Smallville” and “Supernatural,” has ordered up a new series of cartoons that will highlight the Man of Web. That’s right Spider-Man is returning to animation and coming to television as early as the spring of 2008.
CW Network execs have indicated that the new Spidey-Toons will be an important part of the channel’s 2008 Saturday morning children’s programming lineup.
According to a statement issued by Betsy McGowen, senior VP and GM of Kids WB!, “The addition of Spider-Man bolsters a lineup that has proved to be the Saturday morning destination for kids seeking action and adventure in the most amped-up ways.”
The series has a working title of “The Amazing Spider-Man and will be set in Peter Parker’s high school era.
All the comic book villains will be on hand, including the Green Goblin, Dr. Octopus, Sandman, Venom, Tarantula, Mysterio, Lizard and Kingpin.
“Our goal is to reinterpret these great characters and concepts for our millennium,” said supervising producer Greg Weisman. “We’ll have plenty of resonant material for the Spider-Man fan, while engaging the Spider-Man novice with the same thrills we experienced when we were first exposed to the character.”

It doesn’t surprise me that they’re making yet another Spider-Man cartoon, but I am shocked that it will be on CW, owned by Warner Brothers; home of the DC universe.
