Fans of the short-lived ABC SF series “Day Break” starring Taye Diggs will be pleased to know that the Season One finale, which turned out to be the series finale will be aired tonight (Tuesday — Feb. 27th) at the ABC/Day Break online website.
This scifi cop series held out a lot of promise when it was first announced last year as a mid-season filler for “Lost” when it was scheduled to go on its fall hiatus. The plot dealt with a detective, framed for murder who is the only one who knows that he is living the same day over and over again. The events of the day, however, don’t always stay the same because of his different interactions within that same day. Diggs’ character tries to amass enough evidence during his “Groundhog Day” experience to prove his innocence.
After tonight’s finale, all thirteen of the episodes will be online for viewing at ABC Go.com.

Day Break was pretty interesting. Shame they cancelled it.

This is a great series. I was sorry to see it go off the air before its 13 episode run, but am very pleased that ABC is posting it on its website. I have been anticipating the finale. However I think it was only palnned for a 13 episode only run in the first place.

Man, this show was good. And the finale hurt more. Although it did answer alot of questions, it also showed the potential stories/characters to explore had it been picked up again. ABC messed up on this one, but if you think about it, it was doomed before it ever began b/c of advertising it as a LOST “filler” show.

LOVED Day Break Finale but can anyone tell me who was the mas that appeared in the last 15 seconds? I just did not get it?
Jennifer says
sorry – who was the MAN in the last 15 seconds?
J says
I’m not sure who that man was, but it reminded me of a man who Hopper helped in week 7 get out of his repeating day, although this man was better groomed and looked slimmer.

You are correct – it is the other man that was experiencing a repeating day – Jared Pryor. You learn his name and story in the episode entitled “What if they’re not alone”
Awesome series! I agree – ABC definitely dropped the ball by cancelling that one!

Theories on Jared Pryor, the “crazy guy” from episode 7 of Daybreak and the last person you see in the finale.
1. Jared was exactly who he said he was — a sometimes crazy guy looking for his brother. In this theory, he was trapped in the day longer than Hopper and this is part of what made him a little “crazy”. In episode 7 we find out Jared was a “successful bond trader for one of the largest firms in the world” and suffers from seizures and other symptoms associated with hallucinations, blackouts, and “hyperactive episodes of deja-vu”. He has “sudden bursts of memory”. Jared appears to be the key to why the day is repeating. There is a “condition” that causes it. He indicates that he has been “alone for so long” near the end of the episode and we know he has been around the same day because of the “I’m sorry I bit you” comment which occurred on a “Hopperday” earlier in the series. In addition, he has not shaved during the “day” and now has a full beard. This theory contends that in the finale, he understands that somehow the day has no longer been reset and believes that it is a result of Hopper’s actions. This understanding has helped his condition and his concerns about his brother are worked through. Why the suit? He is a bond trader. We would theoretically find out more about this “condition in a later season (but, of course, this will not happen now)
2. Jared is some divine figure who is the cause of the repeating day. Pretty cut and dried this theory is — Jared was the figure causing the repeated day and allowing Hopper the time to work through the different aspects of the day and “fix” items as he went, helping his friends, family and girlfriend as well as himself. The ending is our way of establishing that the day repeating was a direct result of Jared’s work and that he was pleased with the way things turned out. Would there be more Jared? Perhaps there would have been another “repeating day” in another season, but, we will never know now.

Interesting theories.
I started watching Lost, probably because I was looking for a replacement for Day Break, and have found it different and interesting. Unfortunately it leaves me with too many questions about why things are the way they are. I probably will watch Lost sporadically due to the show not having enough closure; which I believe Day Break gave me enough closure to satisfy, yet still mystify. I collect DVD movies, and added to my collection will be my first TV series, Day Break.
