Dr. Dre Moving Into Horror

February 9, 2007 By Sam Sloan Leave a Comment

3977700571.jpgHip hop superstar music producer André Brown, aka Dr. Dre, and New Line Cinema have signed a multi-year deal that will allow both to work together in movie/music productions.

Through Dr. Dre’s Crucial Films , he and collaborator Phillip Atwell will be developing several film projects with the focus on horror and the supernatural. Dre will spend most of his time writing and producing the music and soundtracks for the productions. He is no stranger to film scoring having worked with New Line on the 1996 action crime/drama “Set It Off.”

One of Dre’s biggest supporters and the one who has encouraged him the most to crossover into motion pictures is famed producer Toby Emmerich.

Emmerich is responsible for hit after hit from Hollywood with films ranging from Jim Carrey’s next highly anticipated movie “The Number 23” to the “Blade” films, “Austin Powers: Goldmember” and Samuel L. Jackson’s “Snakes On A Plane.”

“Everything Dre has worked on becomes a hit,” Emmerich told Variety. “…one of the reasons for that is that he never put his name on anything that he doesn’t really believe in…. We’re excited to work with him as he branches out into the film world.”

“This is a natural switch for me, since I’ve directed a lot of music videos,” Dre said in the trade paper. “And I eventually want to go into directing [movies].”
