How To Cast Scotty’s Younger Self

January 30, 2007 By S. K. Sloan 5 Comments

Chris Doohan, the son of the late James Doohan (Scotty of Star Trek) says he knows the perfect person to play the part of the younger version of engineer Montgomery Scott in J.J. Abrams’ new Star Trek XI film… himself!

Doohan asks the question…who better to play the part than one of only a couple male humans on the planet carrying around Jimmy’s genes?

In a recent entry to Chris’ blog on MySpace he states that….”They already signed Matt Damon for the role of Capt. Kirk and are considering James McAvoy as Scotty, but have not made the final decision yet” “…I thought that maybe I would give it a try.”

Here is the list of reasons why Chris feels he is the perfect choice to continue the role his father made famous for 40 years:

  • I kind of look like my Dad
  • I can do a great Scottish accent
  • We share the same last name
  • I like money
  • Doohan admits that he didn’t know how to try out for this, or get an audition, so a friend in the business said that he should start a write-in campaign and get a bunch of his friends and all those who loved his dad to write, or call Paramount studios and Star Trek XI producer J.J. Abrams to try and persuade him/them to give Chris a shot at the family business and household name.

If you think Chris would be ideal for the part his dad made famous in Star Trek lore then write Paramount and let them know how you feel about it. Here is their address: Paramount Studios Attn: Star Trek Casting 5555 Melrose Ave. Hollywood,Ca 90038.

Like Captain Kirk told Captain Picard — “Sounds like fun!”

Who better to play scotty, than scotty’s son. Chris would know all the lines by heart and act know how to act them too. I’m all for it and think it would be killer for you all to give Chris a shot!

I am Chris Doohan’s eldest sister. Definitely he should have a shot at playing our dad on the up-coming Star Trek XI movie. It would be an incredible PR angle for Paramount. People would flock to see “Scotty’s” son playing “Scotty”. They would be negligent to pass up this opportunity. Here are just a few of his attributes:
      -Chris is handsome, like Daddy
-He looks so much like our Dad at that age
-He is gifted with being able to do many accents, just
like Daddy was. Dad’s wide range of accents is what
landed him the role of “Scotty” in the first place
-He obviously is the same nationality and coloring
-He has experience in front of the camera
-He did the majority of the PR for Daddy’s convention /
tribute and coordinated the Hollywood Walk Of Fame
      Star for Daddy in 2004
-He has experience doing interviews for PR purposes
before and after filming to promote the movie
      -He has fabulous people skills
-He is easy to work with
-He is willing and lives locally
I certainly hope you will consider asking Chris to audition for the part. You will not regret it.

I am backing him 100 percent, I think itd be an honor to James’s memory if his son, Chris were to protray him in the movie. It would be outstanding!! God Speed!!
