Mel Gibson’s “Apocalypto” may have been an overall so-so sell in the U.S. however, in the U.K. his epic Mayan-language flick has broken the record for opening weekend B.O. for any foreign-language pic.
“Apocalypto” beat out all its heavy-hitting competition which included the “Miss Potter” debut in England, starring Renee Zellweger and Ewan McGregor, as well as laugh-flop “Employee of the Month” and the Fillion/Sackhoff sequel to Michael Keaton’s hit film “Whitenoise”, “Whitenoise: The Light”.
“Apocalypto” follows on the heels of another very well received foreign-language film “Pan’s Labyrinth” which has done impressive box-office in the U.K. as well.
