Dimension Films and writer-director Frank Darabont’s vision of “The Mist”, an adaptation of Stephen King’s collection of short stories called “Skeleton Crew” will be ready for filming by February 20th.
Thomas Jane (Punisher) will star in this CGI laden flick which is set for a November 21, 2007 release.
The story takes place in a small town where a thick mist engulfs the area, killing those caught in its darkness. Our everyday guy, David Drayton (played by Jane) gets caught up with the town’s terrified survivors who seek refuge in a local supermarket, while a swarm of murderous creatures try to get at them.
The King novella was excellent, and in the hands of a guy like Darabont, who is very familiar with Stephen’s work and style, the film shouldn’t come off as too overindulgent. What Darabont was able to accomplish with King’s “Shawshank Redemption” was pure genius and hopefully he can recapture some of that magic for “The Mist”.
Darabont’s next major movie after “The Mist” will move from horror into scifi with the remake of the Ray Bradbury classic, “Fahrenheit 451”. More on that at some later date.
Providing some of the special effects and creature designs for “The Mist” will be the famous monster creators KNB EFX, as well as Café FX and supervisor Everett Burrell (Sin City) handling CGI effects. With this crew doing all the special FX work audiences will be in for a special treat for the eyes.
