Some casting changes will be taking place on the set of 20th Century Fox TV’s new Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Serenity) vehicle called “Drive”. Kevin Alejandro (Sleeper Cell, Ugly Betty) and Mircea Monroe have been cast to star opposite Fillion, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The show chronicles an underground, illegal cross-country road race with Alejandro and Monroe portraying two of the race’s participants.
This drama series has already seen its share of cast member changes since the shooting of the unaired pilot episode over three months ago, including replacement of Andres Saenz-Hudson and Taryn Manning with Alejandro and Monroe. Manning will be staying on in the regular series, but will play a different role. Even Fillion was not the first choice for the lead. That spot originally was designed for actor Ivan Sergei (Charmed), who played it in the pilot. Another pilot actor not returning for the regular series is Alan Ruck (Star Trek: Generations, Star Trek: Of Gods And Men).
The members of the original cast staying on include Melanie Lynskey, Emma Stone, Kristin Lehman and Rochelle Aytes.
Fox has given “Drive” a greenlight for 12-episodes. It will serve as a midseason replacement.
