Rocky Balboa’s K.O. Mid-Week Surprise

December 22, 2006 By S. K. Sloan 1 Comment

Fairy Tales Can Come True, It Can Happen To You If You’re Sylvester Stallone

Sylvester Stallone looks like he may well turn out to be the comeback kid of the year. His new Rocky flick knocked-out all competition on its opening night this past Wednesday, surprising critics who thought one more was one more too many, especially after a 16-year hiatus for the Italian Stallion.

The movie, about the famous polooka brought in an impressive $6.2 million on a mid-week debut when most people were expected to be in stores getting all their last minute shopping done. Instead, many of them packed into theaters to see the aging Stallone climb back into that ring, ala Foreman-style, for one last time.

Now, those in the entertainment industry are taking this one a little more seriously and anticipating a good showing at the box office for this big upcoming Christmas weekend. Stallone will also be adding another 255 cinema houses to Rocky’s tour this weekend which will also add to the film’s purse.

Will Stallone do it again? Will he close the mouths of those who doubt the drawing power of this cellulloid-created iconic, bigger-than-life character? It looks like the pug from Philly may just do it again. If he does, we can only hope it doesn’t go to his head, and like some real-life fighters, not know when it is truly time to stop and never return to the ring. Let’s hope Rocky, I mean Stallone, will know what it feels like to go out a winner and be statisfied with that for the rest of his life.

This is the movie that “Rocky 5” should have been!
