Will SF Be a People’s Choice? – You Can Decide!

December 6, 2006 By S. K. Sloan 7 Comments

It’s that time of year again. Time to start voting for your favorite movies, TV shows, actors and so on for the next installment of the annual People’s Choice Awards.

This year the show will be aired on CBS on January 9, 2007.

NBC’s “Heroes” is a nominee for “Favorite New TV Drama”, so it’s time for us to make out love of scifi on network television known.

Go — vote now and vote often… you can cast a vote every day! To make your vote count go to PEOPLE’s CHOICE AWARDS and let your voice be heard.

I must be missing something. The only SciFi I saw on the entire voting card was Heroes.

It’s a push for Heroes from the SF camp. So, let’s push!

Yep Heroes is the only choice offered. My original addition in the short piece of BSG and Jericho was to spark fans into action and to get them to ask the question…why is there only one listed this year, when we have so many great choices that should have been included?

It’s all about pop culture and random surveys, so that just means they didn’t interview enough geeks to get those shows into the top 3 nominees.

Heroes had the buzz and the viewership, and made it into the pop culture mainstream early enough to be mentioned tens of thousands of times over, and get the nom.

How to broaden that area of choice in coming years? I have no idea, but I’m sure some enterprising soul will come up with something 🙂

I went ahead and voted. Giving the sci-fi some love.

However, the choices for all the categories were severely limited. I mean, three choices for each category? When my choices for favorite female singer are limited to
Faith Hill, Shakira and Carrie Underwood, I feel like I’m being forced into a decision I don’t want to make…makes me appreciate the new SoSF poll, which has 13 options.

Most of the choices were crap.
Shakira?? 3 and a Half Men? WTF?
Where was Imogene Heap? Where was Corinne Bailey-Rae? (Pardon the spelling if it’s wrong.)
Where was Battlestar and Doctor Who?
This all just reminded me how much I hate the “People’s Choice” awards.
As my friend puts it: The masses are asses.

You go, tllgirl. I think that’s my new sig line. Or at least a bumper sticker or something.
