It would seem that the house that Mickey built is under rennovation. Five months ago, following a disturbing pattern that seems to be occuring throughout the entertainment industry, the Walt Disney Company cut back on its live-action studio work force by as much as 20 percent. Now it appears that the animation side of the company is about to suffer from the same kind of job cuts.
Walt Disney Animation, the home of Disney Feature Animation, Disney Television Animation and Disney Toons, has announced it will slash 160 jobs from its staff of 800, with employees due to be notified of their employment status by midmonth. Disney made the announcement this past Friday.
These cuts will not affect Disney-owned Pixar which will retain its entire 800-person staff, and Disney still plans on releasing at least two animation features per year, as was reported by them earlier in the year.

People still watch Disney? Until they relax in copyright matters I won’t buy a single product of theirs, makes it more difficult to buy gifts for nieces and nephews but it’s worth it for my conscious.
Are they outsourcing their animation? Or are they going away from traditional animation and going more on the Pixar computer-generated model?
Either situation would be the cause for cutbacks in the animation section.
Hey Thomas, they’re NEVER going to relax regarding copyright matters.
Instead of the Disney Store, why not drop by the Warner Store instead?
