Day Break Does OK

Diggs is Good – But Can He Hold the “Lost” Timeslot?

daybreak2.jpgThe show that has taken over the Wednesday night “Lost” timeslot, at least for the next 13-weeks, did alright in the ratings, but don’t break out the ballons and champagne just yet.

“Day Break,” starring Taye Diggs showed promise on its two-hour premiere on Wednesday averaging around 10.54 million viewers. That’s not too bad, yet when compared to the normal holder of that timeslot – “Lost” – it’s not all that exciting. “Lost” has been clocking in numbers around 17 million viewers per show this season.

“Day Break” came up against serious competion in its second hour when NBC brought back one of its ratings getters, “Medium.” The Patricia Arquette supernatural vehicle squeezed Digg’s second hour debut to 9.82 million watchers.

“Day Break” is a self-styled “Groundhog Day” series, minus the comedy and heavy on SF suspense and police action, about a detective framed for murder who ends up reliving the same day over and over until he can gather enough evidence to prove his innocence. Diggs’ character is the only one in the series aware of the redundant day.

Another interesting twist with this show is that, in addition to keeping his memories from day to day, he keeps all of his injuries, too.
