The popular kids fantasy trilogy “Inkheart” by Cornelia Funke will be brought to the screen by producer Barry Mendel (The Sixth Sense & Munich) and New Line.
The film adaptation will star Brendan Fraser as a father who has the uncanny ability to take characters from a book and bring them to life while reading them outloud to his small daughter.
Eventually the fantastical figures from the stories kidnap him and it becomes the task of his little girl and some of her friends to save him from their evil clutches.
The film will co-star The DaVinci Code’s Paul Bettany and the famous British character actor Jim Broadbent (Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe).
Directed by Iain Softley (The Skeleton Key, Hackers), shooting begins next month on location in Italy and England.
