One would have thought that after the disaster that was “The Adventures of Pluto Nash,” Eddie Murphy would have learned to keep his comedy a little more Earthbound, but the definitely funnyman is taking to space once again in the 20th Century Fox production of “Starship Dave.”
Shooting will begin in March 2007 with “The Shaggy Dog” director Brian Robbins (Varsity Blues, Hardball) in the center seat, with Murphy serving in many different capacities for the production. Eddie will star live as the ship’s captain, as well as, provide the voice and personality of the spacecraft (Starship Dave). It was also Murphy who acquired the script, and rumor has it he is putting some of his own financial resources into it.
“Starship Dave” tells the story of a crew of minature, human-looking aliens who are seeking a way to save their doomed world.
Murphy and Robbins have done other projects together in the past, their most recent partnership included the film “Norbit,” a fantasy/romance/comedy about a mild-mannered guy (Murphy) who is engaged to a monstrous woman (Murphy), who meets the woman of his dreams (Thandie Newton), and schemes to find a way to be with her. Look for “Norbit” to hit theaters in February 2007.
