YouTube.com has landed a couple big deals that will make it a continuing driving force in user media internet entertainment.
Today, Universal Music Group signed a distribution deal with the top online video site that will end months of legal disputes over the protection of artist’s rights online.
The group will offer YouTube users the opportunity to have access to its treasure chest of music and videos, allowing them to incorporate songs from the Universal archives and catalog of artists. Users will be free to legally incorporate the material into their own videos, a practice long been done without the legal sanction or approval of Universal.
Just last month, YouTube signed a similar deal with Warner Music Group Corp.
In the second bit of news, CBS Corporation and YouTube have reached a compromise agreement that will give them a strategic content and advertising partnership. This new venture will give both CBS and YouTube a share in the revenue garnered from sponsoring advertisments.
The new deal will give YouTube users access to a variety of CBS’ short-form video programs that includes sports, news and an array of other entertainment options. The deal goes into effect this month.

Yep, the announcement was made within minutes of publishing the above story. Google paid an astronomical amount to get their hands on it and all 27 employees of YouTube will keep their jobs as well. YouTube will continue to operate independent of the Google banner, even though now owned by them.
