“The Incident” A Lens On Road Rage

October 1, 2006 By Sam Sloan 1 Comment

Jim Dougherty, has directed a short film called “The Incident,” which he is submitting to several contests. One of them is Mark Burnett and Steven Spielberg’s new reality show, “On the Lot,” which premieres this spring. He’s also put it up at iKlipz.com, where it’s currently got him in the running for a very nice Sony hi-def camcorder.

Our good friend Jay Hinkleman is also connected to this interesting short that seriously examines road rage and what can happen if tempers are not kept in check. Jay scored the film when it was completed and did some of the 2nd camera work during the shoot. A note to viewers, the violence is graphic.

Check it out at this iKlipz Movies LINK.

The more times it gets watched and rated well, the more likely Jim can win the contest. It’s made it past a couple rounds of voting so far. So, as they say on election day, vote early and often. (Except on iklipz, doing so is not illegal!)

Besides his theatre work, Jim’s training is as a stunt man. He’s performed and/or choreographed a lot of stage stunts, and even done a little stunt driving for the big screen. “The Incident” plays to his strengths.

I’d never tackled a project of this size — yeah, I know, a whopping 4 minutes and 53 seconds, but when you’ve never really scored film before, it feels like you’re writing Handel’s friggin’ Messiah — so even though there are things I’d do differently if I had it to do over again, I’m still pretty darn happy with the way it turned out.

Now I just need to find a way to corner someone like Hans Zimmer or Mark Snow and study under them intensely for a week or two… 🙂
