Time Running Out For the William Shatner’s Sci-Fi Spokesperson Contest!

September 23, 2006 By Sam Sloan 1 Comment

Manhattan, New York—September 22, 2006—As you may remember from an earlier story we did on this, William Shatner has been running a contest with blip.tv—his aim: to find the next Sci-Fi Spokesperson for his new Science Fiction DVD Club. You’re going to have to hurry up and check it out now because the contest ends soon (September 30, 2006)!

Go to SHATNER-BLIP TV and watch some of the crazy Sci-Fi submissions that have been entered—when you vote on a contestant, you are automatically entered to win a brand-new video iPod! Or better yet, there’s still time for you to enter the contest…the winner gets $1,000 cash and has the honor of becoming William Shatner’s new Sci-Fi Spokesperson!

To enter, contestants submit video clips of their crazy Sci-Fi antics to SHATNER-BLIP-TV, and are judged on a combination of the number of page views they receive and the score they earn from those voting on the contest. The new Sci-Fi Spokesperson will introduce Shatner’s favorite films, review Sci-Fi titles for the DVD Club and perform other important duties like writing a blog.

The top ten highest ranked videos will become finalists. In addition, to spice things up, Shatner has selected 7 celebrity judges—each will select a finalist, making the total number of finalists 17. Shatner has tapped the beautiful Chase Masterson, Leta’ from Star Trek: Deep Space 9, the Editorial Team at Star Trek, Harry Knowles, the self-proclaimed Head Geek from AintItCoolNews.com, Patrick Lee, the News Editor at Sci-Fi channel, Rhodes Mason, Director of Marketing & Promotions for VideoDetective.com, and Amy Westervelt, Senior Editor of Planet Magazine. William Shatner will select the Grand Prize winner from all 17 Finalists.

Creative and hilarious videos have been submitted. Two videos that rank in the top five share the theme of one versatile man taking on numerous personas. Entrant Sci-Fi Scot engages the viewer with his explanation of the club’s benefits while slipping into the skin of an omniscient monk, intergalactic captain and tough, interplanetary soldier. He even don’s a blonde wig and channels a Japanese sweatpant-wearing lounge lizard. Computerguy proves his morph-ability in his video entry by becoming no less than 10 different characters, ranging from southern aviator, Sherlock Holmes, crazed redneck and Princess Leah, while extolling the virtues of Sci-Fi and the Shatner DVD Club. Check their videos out and vote for your favorite!

The Sci-Fi Spokesperson contest is sponsored by blip.tv and the William Shatner DVD Club. Blip.tv is one of the leading destinations on the web for video bloggers, dedicated to pioneering the next generation of video programming. Blip.tv makes it possible for you to star in your own reality show!

Bill Shatner himself recently founded the William Shatner Sci-Fi DVD Club, which identifies great but unheralded Sci-Fi films, and offers them to customers for less than $4 each.

The Sci-fi Spokesperson contest began July 15 and will continue to September 30, 2006 so get your votes in or submit your video now! It’s going to be hard to narrow the pool down to 17 finalists, let alone one Winner. Why don’t you step up to the Sci-Fi challenge and make the judges decision even harder with your own killer video entry! No matter what you do, make sure you vote for your favorite video, or you’ll have to wait till next year for the next Sci-Fi Spokesperson Contest.
