In a move that didn’t surprise anyone, actor and funnyman Jim Carrey has ended his 15-year relationship with the United Talent Agency (UTA), the firm responsible for making Carrey the first movie star to ever garner a $21 million paycheck for one film.
After Carrey’s last two films, a SF comedy “Used Guys” and fantasy docu-flick “Ripleys Believe It Or Not,” were pulled by the studios before major shooting had even begun, the divorce papers were guaranteed to be signed. Carrey has now signed on at Creative Artists Agency (CAA), just one week after leaving UTA.
CAA has garnered some big comic names over the last several years, including actor Will Ferrell and comedic director Jay Roach. Carrey’s addition only sweetens the pot.
The question on whether or not Carrey will return to the two cancelled pics was answered by both Fox and Paramount. Fox says “Used Guys” is probably dead, while Paramount would like to revisit the Ripley project at a latter date with Carrey still up for the lead role.
