Director Pedro Almodovar’s “Volver,” starring Penelope Cruz will be the centerpiece film at this year’s Venice Film Festival and will be unspooled at the 44th Annual New York Film Festival.
“Volver” centers around a mother who has died, played by actress Carmen Maura. After her death, she returns to her home town in order to repair certain important and trying life situations she should have resolved while alive but couldn’t. Rejoining her family members that are still living in Madrid, her ghost slowly becomes a comfort to her daughters (Penelope Cruz and Lola Dueñas), as well as her grandchild Paula, portrayed by Yohana Cobo.
