Big Casting Change For “Jumper”

August 11, 2006 By Kyle Nin 2 Comments

We have been keeping the updates coming on the SF thriller called “Jumper.” Slice of SciFi was one of the first news outlets to make the film known during our weekly show a few months ago and was also one of the first to report on our website that Samuel L. Jackson had signed on to play a major character.

christensen.jpgNow Slice of SciFi has learned that original lead Tom Sturridge has been replaced by Star Wars’ very own Hayden Christensen joining him up with fellow Star Wars headliner Jackson. With the addition of Jackson and Christensen the small indie film has become a big-budget film in the $100+ million dollar production range. Add to the fact that Regency Enterprises, the film’s production company, has just partnered with 20th Century Fox for financing and distribution, the hopes for this film have risen significantly to the point of making it into a trilogy.

The movie, co-starring Jamie Bell, is based on the Steven Gould novel of the same name and follows a young man from a broken home who discovers that he has the ability to teleport. In his quest for the man he believes is responsible for the death of his mother, the young man begins to capture the attention of the National Security Agency and another person with the same abilities.

Christensen will play the young man who can teleport. Jackson plays an NSA agent with an ulterior motive for tracking down Christensen’s character, while Bell is the other jumper who shows Christensen how to jump more effectively.

Huh. Now I will admit that it’s been several years since I’ve read the book, but I’m 99% sure there wasn’t another jumper in the story. I think that the one intelligence agent who he ends up dealing with (SLJ’s character) tells him that he’s the first one they’ve come across.

Dammit, now I want to reread the book right this moment, and it’s not easily accessible!

Probably poetic license on the part of the screenplay writer. Jamie Bell needs something to do in the hiatus between the Potter movies…..the kid needs Mo Money, Mo Money, Mo Money!
