The Rock Says He’s Still Onboard “Spy Hunter”

August 10, 2006 By Sam Sloan 2 Comments

Submitted by: Kyle Nin (SoSF Staff Reporter)

spyhunterrockupdate.jpgAfter a long quite spell, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is back out talking about the big screen adaptation of the video game “Spy Hunter.”

In a recent interview with ComingSoon.net he talked about the progress of the project. “It’s the ongoing saga of Spy-Hunter,” winked Johnson. “[They’re] continuing to write the script. Then we had the new Bond and Mission: Impossible come out. It’s just one of those scripts that you can’t screw up, because the elements are so good. You have the Interceptor, you have a guy who chases spies, so conceptually, it’s great and you kind of want to get it right. If it’s not right, you can’t spend a hundred million dollars and get it wrong. So who knows?”

“I met with the writers,” he said when asked how involved he’s been in getting the project moving. “Stuart Beattie was great, turned in great drafts, but it’s everyone agreeing that this is the movie we want to make, and when you have a movie of that size, there’s so many people involved. There’s so many cooks in the kitchen and everybody’s giving their opinion. If everybody’s not in agreeance and it’s not gelling, well then it just doesn’t move forward and it just hovers and stays… and we all talk about how great it’s going to be… and then you guys ask…”

Hmmmm, sounds like it is still on that bumpy road of “perhaps, perhaps not” as it relates to the film’s future.

Even though “Spy Hunter” still struggles to get made, Johnson is keeping busy with work. He is in the upcoming football drama “Gridiron Gang,” due in theaters on September 15, 2006.

    I certainly hope it’s better than “DOOM”…

Was I the only one that liked “DOOM”? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it was great. Maybe it was because I went into it with really low expectations. I really only saw it for the FPS scene, which I thought they pulled off pretty well.

Sorry, I’ve got some pretty fond memories of the original game. Heck, I’ve got the music playing in my head as I type this!
