As we will be reporting on our pre-recorded show tomorrow and on our website a few weeks ago, a Philip K. Dick indie bio-pic titled “Panasonic” is in development with actor Bill Pullman in negotiations to play the lead role.
Variety is now reporting that another movie of the famous SF author is currently underway through the newly launched shingle Touchy Feely Films in collaboration with Anonymous Content. The paper is also reporting that award winning actor Paul Giamatti is the main contender in negotiations to star as Dick in this as yet untitled film.
Tony Grisoni (“Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas”) will write the screenplay for the authorized feature. Producers are Giamatti plus Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin and Lenny Bekerman. Jason Kornick is exec producing. Michael Siegel, who reps the Dick Estate and Electric Shepherd, helped negotiate the deal.
Dick, who died in 1982, penned more than four dozen books and numerous short stories, with at least seven being adapted for the bigscreen, including “Blade Runner,” “Total Recall” and “Minority Report.” “A Scanner Darkly” is in theaters now.
The flick will interweave the prolific author’s life with his fiction and incorporate elements of his last unfinished novel, “The Owl in Daylight.” The unauthorized version, that is to star Pullman, will have fact interweaved with comedy and drama. Both actors will be perfect for the part of the brillant but troubled author.
