“Sean Patrick Flanery…travels to an alien planet seeking a new home in “Savage Planet.â€? What he finds, however, is pure terror.”
Someone needs to tell the SciFi Channel that science fiction is not horror!
Why can’t they produce decent sci-fi movies that AREN’T about big scary monsters? There’s alot of really interesting short-stories out there that wouldn’t require big budgets, and would be far more interesting to watch than this monster-of-the-week crap. Give us something inspiring! Something that examines our humanity and our relationship with emergent technologies. DON’T give us another “Mansquito” with a new name.
I’m pretty happy with Eureka so far, its keeping a lighter, more fun tone, and it doesn’t portray science as an evil force threatening to destroy humanity.
I dunno… I mean, I think the monster-of-the-week thing SciFi’s got going is ridiculous (“Mansquito” — tee hee!), but on the other hand, I think we *do* need to keep a wary eye on scientists, and our attitudes as a culture are always reflected in our art. (Science is a wonderful thing, but scientists are people, and therefore not quite always wonderful. 😉 )
