Heath Ledger to Play The Joker?!

July 20, 2006 By S. K. Sloan 6 Comments

heathledger.jpgIn a move right out of left field Latino Review is announcing that Heath Ledger (Brothers Grimm, Brokeback Cowboy) is being cast as the Joker in the Batman Begins sequel.

I wouldn’t even give this serious consideration were it not for the fact that Latino Review beat us all out on the scoop that Brandon Routh would be cast as the Man of Steel in Superman Returns weeks before the studio made it public knowledge.

With his goofy smile, I suppose anything is possible.

Here is the word from Latino Review:

“We were first to tell the world that Brandon Routh was going to be the new Superman. Now here we are at it again as we just got word from A VERY TRUSTED SOURCE that the offer last night was officially made to Heath Ledger to star as The Joker in the Batman Begins Sequel!”

It actually makes sense in the context established by Batman Begins that they’d go for someone younger and more “muscular” to explore the origins of the Joker.

As for Ledger himself, he’s got plenty enough range to tackle it. Just compare his performances in “A Knight’s Tale” and “Brokeback Mountain.”

Wow, surprising. Crispin Glover would be perfect in my opinion but who knows how Heath could do.

I won’t be able to watch it. I’ll keep expecting him to have sex with Batman. YUCK!!!!

    Its Brokeback Mountain not Cowboy.
    and they were sheepherders.

I’m dissapointed quite frankly. I’m not going to slag of Ledger because i have not seen enough of his work to although what little I have seen i have been indifferent to. Christopher Eccleston was my personal favourite not only because he is english but also because he is outstanding in everything I’ve seen him in. Also he is physicaly perfect for the role. He was in a film called Death and the Compass in which he played a role similar to that of the joker and if you get a chance to see the film (or even find immages of Eccleston as Red Scharlach) you will understand how right i and other eccleston supporters are. sorry for ratteling on.
