Oliver Queen, a.k.a. Green Arrow, the DC Comics hero will be making a special appearance in Smallville next season for a story arc that will run for several episodes (possibly seven in all).
“He will start to form the nascent Justice League,” said Alfred Gough, Smallville’s executive producer in an interview with TV Guide. “He’s trying to find like-minded people with special powers and put a more formal structure in place. Ultimately Clark will see the value of what he is trying to do but as he’s gotten older, Clark has become more cautious. He will always be there to help out, but he doesn’t want to be part of a formalized organization”.
Justin Hartley, who was to portray Aquaman in the unaired pilot for the series that failed to be picked up by the new CW Network will be playing the role of the Green Arrow.

Ok, I understand that SOMETHING has to happen to Clark when he’s a teenager, or else, well, we wouldn’t have a show, would we? But according to the team behind Smallville EVERYTHING happened to Supes when he was still a kid! There’s going to be nothing left to happen when he’s an adult, who’s he going to fight?
Forming the Justice League before they’re even superheroes? Ollie can’t be very old if Clark is only 18 or so. This is just a BAD IDEA.

Like I’ve said about the Superman Returns movie: this ain’t the comics. DC is trying to get the stories aligned in the comics, but this isn’t carrying over to either Smallville or the movies. For someone who is big in to pretty much anything DC, I’m pretty tolerant of “re-imaginings” (not to include most of the Batman movies).
That being said, I agree that an attempt at starting up the Justice League this early in Clark’s career is pretty stupid. If he was already wearing the tights, maybe, but not before.

OK, now they’re just getting stupid. I just read on scifi.com that Jimmie Olsen is going to be a love interest for Chloe this season. Shouldn’t he be around 6 or so? Guess not in the world of Smallville.

Smallville is just BASED ON the comics, so don’t expect it to mirror everything that has happened in the comics. They’re just trying to add more things in from the comics to make it more Superman-like.
I’ll be watching it no matter if people think it’s stupid (although most people think that RIGHT NOW).

I have no problem with their re-imagining of the Superman story – if I did I would start with the Clark/Lex freindship. No, I think Smallville did a pretty good job of re-imagining a often told story. I object to the bad writing from episode to episode. Smallville is cliched with really bad dialog. The character relationships are put together so badly – I stopped watching this show in it’s 3rd year (though my roommate is a huge fan so I have seen epsiodes since then). I can’t believe they have dragged out the Clark/Lana will they or won’t they for 5 years! It gets old.

I remember an old Superboy comic (obviously pre-Crisis) that explained that Superboy and Lex were friends at one time. Then, during an explosion in Lex’s lab, Superboy put out the fire with this super-breath. This not only ruined the experiment, but the resulting fumes caused Lex to lose his hair, thus making them mortal enemies.
My, how things have changed in the DC universe. Change can be either good or bad. It’s kind of hard to be a purist in the DC universe: there was the Crisis of Infinite Earths that was suppose to bring it all together; then there was Zero Hour to do it again; and most recently there was Infinite Crises to start things over yet again. Hey, at least they kept it Clark Kent and not Clarisse Kent!
