In an interview with The SciFi Channel’s SciFi Wire, Casper Van Dien said that his new film made for the cable network is called “Slayer” and is a cross between Predator and Blade. Van Dien said his character, Hawk, resembles the Arnold Schwarzenegger character in the first film, as he leads a group of U.S. Army soldiers who are preyed upon by vampires in the South American jungle.
“Hawk is a little bit tormented and a little bit challenged,” Van Dien (Starship Troopers) said in the interview. “What was fun for me was [that in real life] my father was a military guy, and my grandfather was a military guy, and my other grandfather was a military guy. So we have a lot of Navy and Marine in there, and I got to play an Army guy, which is the opposite of that a little. [Hawk] cares deeply for his team and his friends and his missions, but he’s conflicted in regards to life away from the military and the challenges of maintaining a relationship when you’re completely dedicated to your men.”
Van Dien added that he enjoyed working with his co-stars, who included Jennifer O’Dell and the original TV Wonder Woman Lynda Carter. “One of them was the female version of Tarzan, and the other one was Wonder Woman,” Van Dien said. “They’re both very interesting people….”
Slayer can be seen on The SciFi Channel on July 8 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
