Downey Jr. Says No to “Poe”

July 6, 2006 By Kyle Nin 2 Comments

RobertDowneyjr087.jpeAccording to ComingSoon.net Robert Downey Jr. has put the kibosh on the rumor that he would star in a bio pic about the tragic genuis Edgar Allen Poe written by Sylvester Stallone. “Poe” is also slated to be produced and directed by Stallone.

Downey jokingly admitted to having lunch with Sly and looking over the script. “No, I’m sorry,” he rescinded. “I’d like to admit that I did have dinner with Sly. I’m not ashamed of it, it was a blast, and he wrote a great script…..”

Downey J is currently playing opposite Keanu Reeves and Wynona Ryder in Philip K. Dick’s “A Scanner Darkly,” which opens in select cities on Friday, July 7.

My whole problem with this idea is “Sylvester Stallone”…

He’s good at what he does, but this idea scares me to death and I bet it would be the death of me…

A gifted actor who struggles with addiction playing a gifted writer who struggles with addiction? Was that type-casting, somewhat?

Isn’t Stallone an Acadamy Award winning writer? Didn’t he write “Rocky”? He might indeed know something…
