Gina Torres has acted in a lot of movies and TV shows, but the part that has brought her the most recognition and fame (at least with scifi fans) was Zoe on Firefly/Serenity. Now that it appears Joss has placed the much loved franchise on the shelf (and we all hope that is only temporary), what has Gina been up to lately? Plenty it would appear. She will be in a brand new FOX weekly series this fall and has one movie in the can and two on the way.
“STANDOFF” is a TV Action/Adventure Drama series about a pair of hostage negotiators trying to stay focused on their job while resisting the mounting sexual tension and attraction that is building between them. Look for this new series in the fall on FOX.
Gina has just completed a knock-off indie film called “JAM.” Once I explain it then you will understand why I called it a knock-off. “Jam” is the story about a huge traffic jam caused by an accident and the boiler-pot-pressure that is about to explode with the people involved as their frayed nerves, bigotry and anger begin to spew out. Yeah, I know – can anyone say “Crash?”
Her next film, on the other hand that is in post-production, is called “SOUTH OF PICO.” It is an engrossing movie about four witnesses of a fatal accident involving an 11-year old girl. The witnesses react violently by killing the driver who caused the accident. The film then chronicles their lives that led up to that fatal day and the aftermath that ensues once the deed is done.
Gina’s current project is filming now and is a romatic comedy. “I THINK I LOVE MY WIFE,” due out sometime in 2007, also stars Chris Rock and is about – what else? – a married man who day dreams about being with women other than his wife, and is put to the ultimate morality test when he accidently meets up with his friend’s super hot ex-mistress.
Gina Torres, despite the lack of Serenity is keeping very busy. But, regardless of all that, the role I want to see her in again is – you guessed it – ZOE!

Amen, brother, amen.
