Save “Invasion”

June 17, 2006 By S. K. Sloan 17 Comments

Back in the 1960’s fans of the original series of Star Trek began a trend that has continued to this day, a fan-based effort to save or revive their favorite cancelled show. The first effort was successful in getting one more season of STAR TREK (TOS).

Since that time there have been other serious efforts, such as the Save Farscape, Save Buffy and Save Angel campaigns.

Another effort that had to do with Star Trek was the campaign to Save Enterprise from being cancelled after just 3 seasons. That project was also successful in convincing the studio to give the show one more season, but when they decided to shut the show down after season 4, the continued effort was not so fortunate.

Since then a massive worldwide Browncoat campaign was waged to save Firefly from oblivion and those in Hollywood who would fund such an project heard the fans and gave Joss Whedon the green light for a movie called Serenity, which starred all the regulars from the Firefly TV Show.

Three other campaigns are now being waged to save fan’s favorite shows – Threshold, Surface and Invasion. Save Surface petitions have garnered nearly 20,000 signatures to date. The newest effort is aimed at saving ABC’s scifi show Invasion. The show did get one entire season but left viewers in a lurch over its season ending cliffhanger, leaving them hungry for more – so, they too are waging a battle to get the show returned in some format.

No offense- I loved Invasion and followed it right up until its demise- but we have to stop this “save every show” approach! Forces divided etc.

Also, much as I loved the show, there are other ones out there which are more deserving. Pull this kind of stunt every time- and the studios will stop the little listening they are doing now.

No one’s trying to save Night Stalker, even though I myself would be very happy if it returned. So not EVERY show is trying to be saved.

But, fans have to show that they’re interested in these shows. Even if they don’t return, they may still get continued as a mini-series, a movie, or even a series of books.

So I say, keep pushing for it.

No show is more deserving of being renewed than Invasion, particularly after it was so poorly handled by the network. Fantastic show, outstanding actors, fans worldwide, huge cliffhanger. At least give us a movie!

I totally agree that this fantastic show deserves to be saved!! I am on the edge of my seat every week watching the excellent acting and story in this show (esp. from Fichtner as Underlay) – we have to try and get Invasion renewed.

I believe ABC stated they LISTEN TO THEIR FANS. So we, (fans) of “Invasion”, are making our voices heard via the various saveinvasion campaigns. How can letting the network know that there is a substantial fan base for a particular show cause . . .”the studios will stop the little listening they are doing now” to manifest? It is the fans who buy the products which air during an episode, which a sponsor promotes during that hour(s).

So, I hate to say it, but the “green $$” rules the decision making of what programs stay on the air. Therefore we’re letting the networks know, that we are a large fan-base whom, they/sponsors have the potential to market too.

As a ‘customer’ I surely have the right to tell a supplier if I am not happy with the service or goods supplied. Invasion is one of the best shows in years and I intend to let ABC know just how I feel about it being cancelled. If we fans don’t speak up we will lose any chance at having a say in what we watch. Maybe what we really need to do is shout a little more often about what we do and do not like.

Invasion was one of the best series I have ever seen, and I`m no chicken, I`ve seen plenty!! This was quite simply QUALITY! I am VERY upset at it`s cancellation, and would urge people to continue the campaign to get it back! I loved this show completely….sad days indeed when a show like this needs people to fight for it!!

Rarley is there anything that our family can enjoy together and discuss with co-workers, friends, etc. INVASION was (is) such a program. Our family designated our familynight – with no exceptions for INVASION. We planned our meals and set everything aside to have this time together. We miss it terribly.

I thought Invasion was the best show in years. There can be no harm in letting abc know how we feel. At the end of the day if you don’t ask you don’t get. If enough people do the asking then the show has a strong chance being renewed.

i have been writing on several websites to save surface and invasion – there is a website under name the glass is too big where you can post your comments – also for surface there is one called savesurface.com and we all have been emailing the heck out of sci fi channel as well as nbc and abc for these two shows – i thot if the sponsors could be contacted, they might agree to sponsor the shows – just a heads up – dvd for surface comes out 8/15 and i am hoping millions of copies around the world will be sold and maybe that will send a message to nbc or sci fi channel which is owned by nbc – have not heard any reports on a dvd set for invasion but sure hope one will be coming out too

I’m still don’t believe they’ve canceled Invasion. I’m really confused on this one…what in the hell are the decision makers doing at ABC? I’ve never protested the canceling of a tv series until now. ABC, you’re clueless.

Invasion was a great show, better than “Lost”. It had a great storyline and great actors. ABC should have never cancelled it. What were they thinking? Please make a season 2. Obviously there is alot of fans out there.
