June 15, 2006 By News Droid 18 Comments

rose3.jpgSlice of SciFi has received many emails today about Billie Piper (Rose Tyler) leaving the Doctor Who series after the conclusion of season two. These same kind of reports came out of the BBC near the conclusion of season one, but this time it looks like it may well be true.

To all our fans who have contacted us about this breaking story, thank you. Here is the link you have all sent to us for all our readers and listeners to ponder:

The good thing is Doctor Who is the one show that can handle change extreamly well. Sad to see her go, but cant wait to see who join up next.

    Good riddance.

Her hopeless acting is the only weak part in a terrific show. And hopefully this means we won’t be subjected to her nightmare of a mother (again some terrible overacting going on there) either. Billie insists on gurning all the way through the show, often wiping out the mood of a single gaping mouthed vacant look, missing the beat time after time after time.

For heavens sake K9 has more acting skills than this woman.

I’m with Karl. She never did it for me. Her dark roots and dopey mouth that looked more like one of the fish from “Shark Tale” bugged me. Yeah, the acting sucked too.

Karl, Chuck. Send me some of whatever you two are inhaling.

Joe…..one does have to wonder what substances Karl and Chuck are partaking of. I don’t think they are watching the same show at all. Billie’s done a great job as the companion….better than some of the classic companions I might add. Maybe they haven’t had the chance to see some of the season two stuff yet…..”School Reunion” “Girl In The Fireplace” just to name two show off her range quite nicely!

I would hate to see her go, but it’s not quite as bad as when Leela stopped being the companion.

Tom Baker’s Doctor’s last companion, who was also a timelord, was the only one I know of to have somekind of romance going on in the show.

I think Karl and Chuck are taking it a bit too far, I dont believe that Doctor Who is supposed to be some acting powerhouse. Hell its about a guy who time travels in a police box. Just sit back and enjoy it and stop trying to pick it apart.

I’ve known /been aware of Billie Piper since her pop starlet and ginger-tosser baiting days, being a UK resident. Perhaps we Brist are just a tad more critical of her in view of her dubious (non-existant) acting background. I’m just sick of her mile-wide grin which seems to get rolled out whenever she doesn t do the ‘I’m sad now’ look!
As for Dr Who being some acting powerhouse, well they have got 2 of the greatest thespians in the UK today to play the Doctor, so it is even more important that the assistant’s acting be up to par!

Perhaps we should remind them of Mel? 😉

2 seasons isn’t an abnormal timespan for one of the doctor’s assistants. I liked Billie Piper. She had attitude.
But I’m still missing Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor. Can’t disagree with his reasons for leaving (he was good enough to wind up typecast). David Tennant looks awfully similar to the 7th Doctor, Sylvester McCoy, not one of my favorites.
