It Had To Happen Eventually

June 12, 2006 By Kyle Nin 2 Comments

Late night television has David Letterman, Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien and Craig Ferguson, but now get ready for a new breed of talk show host in the guise of Augustus Pfiffle and sideman(?) Delbert Kastle.

Welcome to “Late Night Buffet” the first Late Night Talk Show to feature an all muppet cast and crew. The new show will be a production from the Jim Henson Company and have its debut on TBS next season.

After the success of Nick At Night’s Alf talk show in which the famous puppet and side kick icon Ed McMahon interviewed real human guests on each show, TBS wanted to gear up its late night slots by introducing a similar type of talk show but having its scripts and guests aimed entirely for an adult audience.

TBS has ordered a half-hour pilot that would stage a talk show entirely with muppets talking with human celebrity guests in your typical talk show setting. Henson Co. co-chair and co-chief executive officer Brian Henson will do the puppetry for Buffet with Bill Barretta.

Just in case you were wondering…..no, this new show will not feature classic muppets such as Kermit the Frog or Miss Piggy, but will highlight a new breed of muppets. Along with Augustus Pfiffle and Delbert Kastle, the entire band will be a muppet group called Gina Cappellini and her Pet Monkeys.

It kind of sounds to me like Muppets Tonight (from the mid 90’s). I loved that show.

Bring back Gonzo and the Sweedish (or if you are Sweedish, Norwegian) Chef!
