It now appears that the upcoming remake of “The Birds” will not be fashioned after the classic Alfred Hitchcock film version but will follow the plot of the original short story by Daphne du Maurier.
Brad Fuller from Platinum Dunes Productions said that they “are currently in the process of developing the script” that will follow du Maurier’s premise that the reason the birds become hostile and attack people is the result of a severly harsh winter which causes their food supply to became almost non-existent. In the 1963 Hitchcock film version the reason for the sudden flocking and attacking of humans by the birds was never explained. Also, the setting for the remake will probably take place in the original story’s location of Cornwall, England instead of California in the United States.
