Director Uwe Boll is so upset at the US distributor of his film “BloodRayne,” he is taking them to court.
“BloodRayne,” the vampire action flick bombed big time at the box office and Boll says it wasn’t because his movie was badly done but because of poor advertising and inadequate distribution.
His lawyers claim that Romar Entertainment’s James Schramm and actor Billy Zane failed to properly advertise or schedule cinemas for the movie, and he is suing them for breach of contract.
According to the lawsuit filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court the company failed to ensure that the film opened in a minimum of 2,000 cinemas across America. It also cites that $10 million provided for advertising was not used by the company entirely for that purpose. A further claim alleges that the plaintiffs took around $900,000 from that money, including an unauthorised $450,000 finder’s fee for the actor.
Boll is seeking a share of the profits of the movie but the production is a least $23 million in the red so it is unlikely any profit sharing will ever take place.
“BloodRayne” had a very talented cast with Kristanna Loken, Michelle Rodriquez, Ben Kingsley, Michael Madsen, Billy Zane, Meatloaf, William Sanderson and Michael Pare’ but failed miserably with its US audience and faired little better overseas.

This is too easy.
A. Kristanna Loken is not very talented.
B. No matter how talented the actors were, there was no saving the writing.
C. If the judge has to watch that movie as part of the case, Boll doesn’t stand a chance in hell of winning his case.
A. is a matter of personal opinion. Some think she is others think not — they can’t both be right. In her defense it depends a great deal on the direction and material she receives. She was quite good in Dark Kingdom: The Dragon King, average in Terminator 3, was pretty bad in Air Panic and stunk to high heaven in BloodRayne. She is no Jodie Foster, but again is much better than Pamela Anderson. 😉
B. Couldn’t agree more
C. Perhaps the defendants are hoping just for that. 🙂
When will Boll learn when he makes crap – it will bring in crap no matter how much money you throw at it.
Look at movies that have stunk over the past few years that have millions and millions of ad budgets – they might open big but when the cost spent versus money brought in are shaken out – word of mouth is the key to movie making in the end
And the world of mouth was he killed another viable video game franchise
