“The Cultural Phenomenon of Star Trek”An evening with Rod Roddenberry and Roger Nygard

The public speaking appearance of guests Rod Roddenberry — son of the late Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, and Roger Nygard — director and producer of the Trekkies documentaries, will augment the academic discipline of anthropology as observed through the cultural phenomenon of Star Trek. This event is designed to raise community awareness of how the social aspects of Star Trek mirror contemporary society, including the topics of Universal Ethical Dilemmas, Cultural Perspective, Conflict and Optimism for Humanity’s Progress.
The guest speaker presentations will be accompanied by a short amateur video featuring Star Trek’s influence on local rock music bands “Warp11” and “Stovokor”, and a discussion with adjunct faculty anthropology instructor Daryl Frazetti on the philosophy, multiculturalism, and historical context of the subject, as discussed in the Lake Tahoe Community College course Special Topics: The Anthropology of Star Trek.
Ticket Sales: Event will be seated on a general admission basis. Ticket prices for the event will be $25.00 each for the general public and $20.00 each for any college student with a valid student ID.

Eugene “Rod” Roddenberry, son of Star Trek’s creator Gene Roddenberry, currently producing the documentary Trek Nation.
Roger Nygard, independent film maker, director, writer, producer and editor for film and television, director and editor for Trekkies I & II.
Daryl Frazetti, adjunct faculty, dept. of Anthropology and Sociology.
