Slice of SciFi Show #058 for May 23, 2006

May 19, 2006 By Sam Sloan Leave a Comment

On the next Slice of SciFi Show #058 we are proud to introduce our guest Anthony Gallea, Executive Director of GAMA – Game Manufacturers Association.

Anthony has been involved in gaming in one way or another for over 25 years. He started by playing D&D, and Avalon Hill and SPI games, in elementary school. In high school, Anthony played just about every game he could find, and began running gaming events at Sci-Fi cons.

In his late teens, Anthony moved on to running whole game programs at Sci-Fi conventions, and was playtesting games as well. In 1993, Anthony published the Theatrix diceless role-playing game with some pals under the banner of Backstage Press, and in 1994, he started running the ManaFest game convention in the San Francisco Bay Area with Japji Khalsa.

Since then he has been running conventions, writing articles for gaming publications, consulting on game design, brokering games, and designing board games. Anthony has worked for GAMA since 2001, and as the Executive Director for GAMA, oversees the running Origins Game Expo, GAMA Trade Show, and several industry programs. He still runs ManaFest, now called “KublaCon,” and he is the co-designer of Dwarven Dig!, with Japji Khalsa, from Kenzer and Co.

In Movie Talk, Mike, Evo, Summer and Joe will be on hand to talk about “Game Boys” and the new Uma Thurman superheroine comedy “My Super Ex-Girlfriend.” On the small screen Ron Perlman is gritty and downright evil in Stephen King’s “Desperation,” and the gang ponder on why May has become the month of SciFi Doom!

In other news we look at J.J. Abrams’ fond memories of “Alias” and his work on a brand new speculative fiction television venue called “Six Degrees.” The gang takes an imaginary trip to Finland to talk about what those frisky Finns who brought us the fanfilm “Star Wreck: the Pirkinning” are up to now……and, be careful where you put down your foot, that cockroach you just stepped on may be a multi-million dollar piece of sophisticated spy technology.

Doug is on-hand with three more trivia clips and will Evo do as well on this week’s show as he has over the last couple? Be careful Evo, you’re really starting to fit into that true geek suit.

Again, Summer looks deep into her crystal ball to see what is in the foreseeable future in the way of genre entertainment as she reveals the full cast of the new Simon Hunter film “The Mutant Chronicles,” and those ghostbusting ding-bats are at it again on the streets of New York and they are taking the battle straight to hell.

The Slice of SciFi Show #058 will be available for download this Tuesday, May 23, 2006. You won’t want to miss a minute of it.
