While there is yet no official news from the Peacock Network about the future of their scifi hit “Surface,” some hint has come down in the way of NBC’s Monday nite slate. The 8:00 PM slot that was housed by “Surface” will probably be filled by the new drama “Friday Night Lights.”
So it appears that “Surface” a favorite for many fans has been cancelled. Last week all the stars of the series were released from their contract with the NBC show, giving a strong indication of the show’s possible demise. If news to the contrary arises we will get the word out here on the Slice of SciFi Website.

With the cancellation of the three sci-fi shows that were new this season (Threshold, Surface, and Invasion), I’m getting the feeling that network TV hates sci-fi.
Damn, damn, damn, damn, damn.
The nets don’t hate scifi, they just don’t know what to do with it. They think they know, based on experiences from shows 20 years ago, and they muff it.
The only thing I’l miss from this show is Lake Bell. otherwise, utterly silly throwback to 50’s monster movies – great then, not today. Was taking me less than half an hour to fast-forward through episodes, skipping the annoying nim subplot.
I’ll say it again…Screw the networks, let’s all support the specialty cable channels. The networks won’t give a decent sci-fi show a chance.
You are talking about network marketting guys. They probably
couldn’t be more out of touch with thier audience. Look at
all of the sitcom garbage that passes for TV and you realise
what sort of tiny minds are in force. Unfortunately, the scifi viewer is not in charge and has absolutely NO say about what goes on the air. Since the execs are playing to the least common denominator, they is no chance of getting something that is intelligent, interesting, and durable, anymore, it more likely that is will be stupid, boring, and brief, as the fickle minds of the ad execs change with the weather.
Folks, remember if you saw it in the news. May 12, 2012. Science fiction is coming to earth then, or a 1 in 6500 chance of it. Who knows what type of recreations will occur from that visitor.
Please hear our cry. Take SURFACE to digital cable tv.
SciFi. SciFi. SciFi.
They need something new for people to view.
Or maybe UPN. To just let it go would be a sin.
Between the three sci-fi sitcom’s that started last fall Surface was the best. And one of the best to come out in a long time, especially with its story line. I believe the network is definitely going to be kicking themselves if another network picks this story line back up with great success. It’s not to many shows that gathers everyones’ attention in my house.
For Erica Heinlein: I agree on your assessment of stupidity in the network marketing guys. On a side note, did you ever live in Springfield Missouri?
