Poseidon Sinks Like a Stone

May 14, 2006 By S. K. Sloan 6 Comments

It looks like viewers took serious note of our’s and other reviews of the big-budget remake of The Poseidon Adventure, because the film “Poseidon” sunk like a stone at the box-office this weekend. Failing to unseat Cruise’s MI: III which has garnered around $20.6 million so far this weekend, “Poseidon” has acquired a paltry $20.3 so far with only a few hours to try and cash in on more ticket sales.

Even the Cruise film, although it remains at number one for two weeks in a row has been dubbed a failure from the box-office perspective. It is my hope that Hollywood will start getting the message that while movie-goers still like action flicks, we also want better storylines, more substance and a little less crash-boom-bang!

Not to mention we don’t want nutjobs espousing questionable belief systems in the leading role either.

Totally agree- nothing on earth could drag me to see another Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible in name only… Terrible fare.
Call me a cynic but Hollywood is relying entirely on by the numbers films these days.

You know, while Cruise is obviously a nutjob, Mission Impossible III is really a great movie. It’s easily the best of the series. I completely disagree with the assessment that there is no substance. I found it to be a really great and fun flick. Now Poseidon on the other hand just looks bad, sounds bad, with really bad buzz. I’ll be skipping that one.

Guys, you have to look past the nutjob element in these films and instead look to the deeper meaning that is present; for instance their comments on life the universe and everything….wait a minute, Tom Cruise is in MI:III? Never Mind… Bring me Serenity: II any day.

Have to say I agree with Walter, saw MI:III on the 5th May and really enjoyed it, much better than the second film in the series.

The only negative for me was that the bad guy (played by Philip Seymour Hoffman) was just too bland and didn’t have enough screen time.

All the people who drove this to $20 million in week one deserve to get their money back … From the wooden dialogue to the fact that their quest to get back to the surface was, for long stretches, just incredibly boring, this was just an all around stinker
