George Lucas told MTV that he has learned a great lesson from watching Tom Cruise’s latest on-screen performance and as a result his next film, “Indiana Jones 4” will rely less on the bang of the whiz and more on substantive dialogue.
“I think Tom Cruise proved that people are getting bored with that kind of stuff,” Lucas said when asked about the action. “What they want to see is something different. And Indiana Jones, if nothing else, is always different.”
As far as a script is concerned, George indicated that they finally have one that he, Spielberg and Ford are all happy with and he hopes that shooting can begin as early as next year as long as Steven and Harrison’s schedule will allow for that.
George did say that this Indiana Jones film will be “a great film, but it’s completely different.” While he still promises plenty of action, that will not be the film’s main focus and he thinks this new approach “….works like crazy.”
Speculation about plot and Ford’s co-stars have been fodder for the rumor mill for nearly 10-years but George is keeping tight-lipped on the real details at this time.

Wow, it’s a shame Lucas didn’t watch a little more of Cruise/MI, a few Star Wars movies ago. 🙂
Me? I’m hekka-excited about IJ4.
Just so long as Kate Capshaw isn’t in it screeching “Indy!!!” every 3 minutes.
I hated IJ2 so much that though my sis gave me the boxed set I STILL can’t watch that one. I even came close to giving that one away…but decided to keep the set complete.
