It looks like Christopher Eccleston may move from one great British classic to another. The former Doctor Who star is taking on the role that made Patrick McGoohan a household name on TV sets across the UK and the US. Eccleston will tackle the part of Number 6 in a remake of one of the best and most bizzare television outings ever produced, “The Prisoner.”
Originally debuting in 1969 with only 17-episodes completed, “The Prisoner” captured the imagination of the counter-culture 60’s generation. BBC-Sky One is hoping to recapture some of that magic in a six-part mini-retelling of the story of Number 6’s adventures in The Village from a 21st Century perspective.
Elaine Pyke (Mile High) will handle production duties with Bill Gallagher (Clocking Off) tapped to script.

Freaking excellent! I’m going to celebrate with a stack of flapjacks.

The original was deliriously eccentric and totally unique. In any other hands I would have presumed this doomed to failiure, but Eccleston has the talent to pull this one off.
