“Timothy Leary’s Dead!”

April 27, 2006 By S. K. Sloan 1 Comment

Miramax wants to turn the contorted life of Timothy Francis Leary into a big budget bio pic and I say hooray to them for it.

You might be saying, “Sam, what in the world does Timothy Leary have to do with scifi?” Well, if you were a product of the 60’s counterculture as I was you wouldn’t even have to ask. Leary was walking, talking “tripping” scifi incarnate.

The movie will be based on the Robert Greenfield biography, “Timothy Leary: A Biography” and expose the life of this fascinating man who taught us how to “turn on, tune in, drop out.”

For those who may only remember the man as the main proponent of the therapeutic and spiritual benefits of LSD, then you only know one small side of his many faceted character and achievements. Leary was a accomplished poet, writer, computer software designer and psychologist, and he was good at all of it.

I for one will look forward to this movie release. The Greenfield biography will be in book stores on June 6, 2006.

Right on, and solid gold! Leary might have been stoned out of his mind, or perhaps stoned into another mind. At any rate, some profound words passed over his lips. I’ll line up for this one, as it’s gonna be real hard for them to “hollywood-ize” that ending!
