Slice of SciFi News Briefs

April 27, 2006 By S. K. Sloan 1 Comment

News Briefs from our SoSF Staff Reporters from around the globe:

From Nina (Germany): Director/Producer James Cameron has been encouraging other moviemakers to seriously consider 3D technology for their future films. Cameron is no sloutch in the biz and is responsible for some of the biggest blockbusters to ever hit the silver screen, films such as the Terminator franchise, Aliens, The Abyss, and the highest grossing film of all time, Titanic. Cameron’s latest two films currently in production, “Project 880” and “Battle Angel” are being shot in 3D.

Speaking of 3D, George Lucas will be re-releasing “Star Wars: A New Hope” in theaters in 3D to celebrate the film’s 30th Anniversary in 2007.

From Cougar (Canada): There is a new Star Wars novel floating around on Amazon.com called “Another Hope.” Problem is, it is an unauthorized book by fan author Lori Jareo. Representatives for LucasFilms have asked her to remove the novel from Amazon.com’s listing, to which she readily complied.

From Kyle Nin (USA): Marvel Entertainment Studios is going to give the big green guy another crack at the silver screen for sometime next year. “The Hulk 2” sequel will have a new villain for The Hulk to fight off. This time around he will be battling the near 1000 pound bad-dude Abomination. There is no official word yet on if Eric Bana will return to reprise his role as Bruce Banner/The Hulk.

From Lesmond (the UK): The best selling Philip Pullman trilogy “His Dark Materials” will get big screen treatment with shooting begining soon in Oxford, England for the first candidate “The Golden Compass.”

New Line Cinema will produce this first of three stories about a young girl named Lyra Belacqua who travels to the Artic Circle in order to save a friend who is in danger. Lyra receives assistance in her mission from a bear and a witch.
