“Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” the classic psychological horror/scifi tale from Robert Louis Stevenson is coming to American television as “Jekyll” thanks to Kathryn Mitchell, the BBC America general manager.

James Nesbitt (Murphy’s Law) will star as the tortured doctor, bringing the character out of the Victorian era and up-to-date in the 21st Century. In this updated remake, Dr. Jekyll is married and Mr. Hyde is totally unaware of Jekyll’s marital status. When his alter-dark ego tries to take over his life completely Jekyll resorts to almost anything to keep his marriage together and family safe from the clutches of Hyde.

Premiering on the BBC America second quarter schedule next year, the Jekyll and Hyde program will air as six 90-minute episodes.
