Desire To Save “Surface” is Blossoming

March 18, 2006 By S. K. Sloan 6 Comments

NBC’s scifi drama “Surface” has captured the hearts and minds of the viewing public. Even those not necessarily engaged by science fiction find the show appealing and don’t want to see it end.

A petition drive has already “surfaced” to save this captivating and innovative network program from being slashed from next season’s NBC schedule. A fan by the name of Brandon Collins loves the show so much that he felt an early drive to save the show might prove to NBC Universal execs how much the viewers loved it before the final decision of its future on the network is forthcoming this May.

If you are interested in viewing and possibly signing the “Petition To Save Surface” head over to PetitionOnline.com. Over 8000 signatures have been acquired thus far in the effort.

All I can say is “be careful what you wish for”. You might get Surface renewed and it’ll suck. Or it might come back and do something the fans won’t like (e.g. Serenity and BSG).
Or it could come back and kick some serious ass. You never know.

I watched the pilot and few episodes after this premiered and stopped watching for awhile, it drove me nuts not knowing what was happening so I purchased the eps on iTunes. This show is great and I want to see a season 2!

    (e.g. Serenity and BSG)?
Huh? Serenity was one of the best movies of 2005 and what has BSG done that fans of the show haven’t liked? (I’m just curious)

If only “Threshold” could have been saved…

I am really on the fence about Surface. I have watched the show, but I never really got hooked: I DVR the shows but often would go a couple of weeks before getting caught back up. Contrast this with BSG where I never miss an episode.

I think the main reason for my lack of enthusiasm this is that Surface drags. If they put all of season one’s content into about 3/4 of the number of episodes the show would have been much better. Dragging things out to build suspense is great, but each show still has to remain interesting if you want people to continue to care about what you are keeping them in suspense about.

I am one of the fans of Surface who has been working to get the word out about Brandon’s petition. Another fan has set up a website, http://www.savesurface.com and he has links to the project that I am involved in, Project Nim. We have organized a May Day letter/email writing campaign and would love to have all of the fans join in our efforts. We are doing everything we can to get NBC’s attention and we did get the attention of the Pate brothers. They want to deliver Brandon’t petition to NBC in person.
    Keep something in the water.
