Report on the First Annual SciFi Space CON

March 17, 2006 By S. K. Sloan Leave a Comment

Greetings from Holland (Friesland, The Netherlands). Because you were kind enough to mention our new Scifi Space Convention on your show a few weeks ago I would like to give your listeners a report on how our first ever CON went.

Our convention started off slow in the morning due to some very bad weather in Central Holland. However, later on a lot of CON visitors and Exhibitors with Star Trek memorabilia began to show up. The reaction of the convention goers when asked about the CON was mainly: “Very different from other conventions but it is definitely not bad.” Also, a large amount of signatures were collected for the Enterprise Direct-to-DVD Drive. Those will be forwarded to CBS Paramount. By the end of the day people went home, glad to have been there and sorry it was over.

The guest list was headlined by Cath Krom, and like all famous webmasters she was not easily recognized but the minute she was introduced to the audience, knowing her talented website creations, they scrambled to get her autograph, which she was able to give out a few after her panel..

Sadly, the fan film cast we had been negotiating an appearance for were unable to make the conference because of the severe weather flight cancellations.

This did not deter the crowds enthusiasim and due to the overwhelming positive response we are able to announce that SciFi Space CON 2007 is already in the planning stages. In anticipation of this possibility some tickets for 2007 were given away at this CON in one of the biggest Fan Art Contests ever held.

Scifi Space Fan Art Awards for the 2007 CON will be opened beginning the 17th of March 2006. Fan Art creators of all ages, experience and countries may enter. Visit our Scifi Space Website for details. There will be mp3 updates and interviews with fan art makers on the site the weeks leading up to the voting, and on the night of the announcement of the winners there will be a live stream that keeps you updated while the last votes are being counted. Winners will be allowed to tell their personal story on the show.

Well, that is a short report of what happend and thank you and your fans again for all your support.

Greetings,
Bennie Russchen
Scifispace Event Coördinator
