Joe Callero loves 50’s SciFi and wanted to make a movie about it. He only had $5,000 but thought, “Why not?”
What he created was a low (we’re talking sub-basement low) budget flick called “Flying Saucer Rock n’ Roll,” a throw-back to those by-gone days of the 1950’s horrible scifi teen flicks reminicent of Ed Wood’s “Plan 9 From Outer Space.” The difference with Callero’s movie is that he intends his creation to be campy and a spoof, whereas poor ole’ Ed was dead serious.
Joe wrote the script and hired a director for the price of food — his son Eric, but he does have experience behind a camera and in what it takes to do the whole production effort for a film. Eric was responsible for a short film that was entered in the Brooklyn International Film Festival to some good reviews.
“Flying Saucer Rock n’ Roll” will have its big premiere on May 18, 2006 8PM/PT at The Rio Theater in Santa Cruz, CA. If you live in the area or will be in town this weekend, drop by, see the flick and say hi to Joe and Eric.
